Christopher Winters
 
Christopher Winters is a founding partner of Newberg & Winters LLP.  His practice focuses on intellectual property matters, with a particular emphasis on the copyright and trademark issues generated by new and emerging media.  Mr. Winters has played key roles in litigating cutting-edge issues related to the use of intellectual property on the Internet, including leading cases on the right of new media companies to make copyrighted materials available on the Internet and the use of trademarked terms in the context of search engine marketing programs.   Mr. Winters’ practice has encompassed all aspects of litigation and client counseling, ranging from presenting trial cases before federal courts and public arbitration bodies to negotiating multimillion-dollar settlements of industry-wide licensing arrangements to developing clients' intellectual property protection strategies.   Mr. Winters also has considerable experience in matters related to compulsory licensing of copyrighted works.  He has represented clients before federal trial and appellate courts, the Copyright Office, Copyright Arbitration Royalty Panels the Federal Communications Commission, and state courts.

Before founding Newberg & Winters LLP, Mr. Winters was at the law firm of Arnold & Porter LLP (1998-2005).  Prior to joining Arnold & Porter, he was a judicial clerk for the Honorable Edward E. Carnes of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit (1997-1998). In addition to being a summer associate at Arnold & Porter (1996), Mr. Winters was also a summer associate at the Chicago office of Winston & Strawn (1995, 1996)

Mr. Winters graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1997 and served as an Editor of the Harvard Journal on Legislation.   While at Harvard Law School, he served as research assistant to Professor Daniel Meltzer.
