Firm Profile

Newberg & Winters LLP was formed by two former large-firm lawyers who had a strong desire to work on the intellectual property issues and cases that could be handled more efficiently and cost-effectively through the personalization and lower rates of a smaller firm.  While we appreciate our large-firm experience, we recognize that not all clients and not all issues require the staffing and superstructure of a 300+ lawyer firm.  Indeed, the vast majority of the matters we worked on while at a large firm - including high profile federal litigation - required the efforts of only a couple of lawyers.  That “small-team-in-a-big-firm” background has allowed us to gain experience in running cases efficiently from stem to stern – from counseling clients to managing document production to arguing motions and cross-examining expert witnesses at trial.   Moreover, the advances in legal support technology and outsourcing in the last ten years – advances we have embraced as early adopters – allow us to access all the resources of a large firm at a fraction of the overhead cost.

Consistent with our prior experience, Newberg & Winters LLP focuses on intellectual property matters for corporate and individual clients.  In this regard, we draw on our broad experience in litigation, counseling and public advocacy on copyright, trademark and patent issues to serve our clients on all aspects of their intellectual property matters.  From litigation to licensing to intellectual property rights management and enforcement strategies, we can put our experience to work for your business or individual needs.

OUR BILLING PRACTICES

We founded Newberg & Winters LLP with the intent of offering clients leaner and more flexible options for their intellectual property needs.  We offer our clients steep discounts from the rates charged by large firms, providing partner level work at rates equal to those charged for junior associates.   In addition to these discounted rates, in the appropriate circumstances we will offer flat-fee billing options and will consider working on a contingent-fee basis.

Furthermore, it is our goal to keep the costs of disbursements (such as travel, phone calls, copies and the like) as low as possible, and to charge our clients at our costs, as opposed to making disbursements a profit center—we believe this will give an added cost-benefit savings to our clients and further our goal of giving clients large-firm quality work at small firm prices.
